Is 16 too young?

I’m currently considering applying for clearing to get into uni, I’m only 16 but I think i would be able to handle it. Should I apply or continue school and wait a year??

Life isn’t a race for the finish line.
No offence but unless you have supernatural academic skills they will probably automatically reject you.
Do you have A-levels or equivalent?

I think there are sometimes restrictions on under 18s in uni accommodation, but I'm not sure about this.

If you don't have A Levels or equivalent, you don't stand a chance! Stay in school until you're 18 and apply in year 13 like everyone else

I’m Scottish and I’ve just sat 5 Highers and I have a Higher from a few years ago too. I’ve got one year left of school but I don’t want to stay home :/
Wait until you’re 18 like everyone else.
I had a friend who went to uni at 17(after 5th year), she's really enjoyed it but because of her age she couldn't stay in halls and you're also limited on the alcohol front. Everyone is able to drink(most likely) apart from you. It's up to you really
This title threw me off..

But as PQ said, it's not a race. Do your A-Levels first.

In Scotland entry requirements to uni are to just have highers(higher than AS level, lower than A level). Some people in 6th year(year 13) don't do Advanced Highers(equivalent to first year uni) and just do more highers. Although it's not a race, for some people staying for 6th year might be a waste of their time.

If you’re Scottish and wanting to go to Scottish universities then your clearing options will be very limited.

What exactly makes you want to go to university this year? What are you hoping to gain? What are you hoping to avoid?

Wow, that seems like a really retarded system. That's like going to Sixth Form in England, doing half your A levels and being like, yeah thats enough, but I still got to wait a year to go to uni anyway?? Like whats the point of the Scottish 'Highers' if you need to sit the 'Advanced' year before you can go to uni? Linear A Levels are starting to make so much more sense now...

You don't need scottish advanced highers to go to uni. You only require highers. The only reason advanced highers were created was to stop people from going to uni at such a young age compared to the english people.
Highers are an official qualification that is undertaken in 1 year, after you sit them you don't have to wait a year to go to uni, you could apply during 5th(year 12) and get in-I had friends that did that.

Scottish uni's are free for us, so it makes more sense for us to only apply to Scottish unis.
Also I'm not the OP, was just pointing out that they have what is required to enter uni

Oh, so why is OP saying 'is 16 too young' if she can get in once she's got her higher things? In England, we don't go from a young age- we go from a later age! 18+! Also damn I didn't know Scottish people could go to Uni for free, that must be expensive for gov?!
Never too young for revision! Thats what you mean right? 😁😂😂

I'd still wait until you're 18, so you can socially adapt more. Going to uni before 18 could cause difficulties in socialising, as well as signing rent as legally you're still a child so are legally incapable of having any kind of contract

Well because most people tend to do sixth year and so when they start will be 18(or almost 18) and as such is wondering if it is worth staying in school for an extra year to be closer in age. There will be things which they can't do(going out to bars/clubs etc)
Yeah, that's just where our government spends some of our money, there are other areas they just spend less on.

Wow thanks for the responses! I’m just curious to see if it’s worth going a year early, I’ll be 17 for a while if I go next year, which is probably better. Im sitting 2 Adv Highers and a Higher next year, i know I don’t need them but I don’t have much else that I need/want to take

Did you already apply to uni this year? Because, otherwise, by definiton are you not applying to uni for 2019 entry?
What would you be doing if you weren't going to 6th year next year?
