De/Increasing Functions

When you find a decreasing function, do you shade inside the curve and count the values inside it?
When you find an increasing function, do you shade outside the curve and count the values outside it?

Also, you would need to factorise to find the x values
But for this equation x^2 -2 < 0 can I just move the -2 to the other side and square root or can this be factorised?

I have no idea what you mean by the first two lines.

You can factorise x22=(x+2)(x2)x^2 - 2 = (x+\sqrt{2})(x-\sqrt{2})

As I said yesterday, I wouldn't advise you to 'just square root' x2<2x^2 < 2 for the same reason I outlined in that thread.
