The Student Room Group

AS Chemistry question

Here is my question:

Explain why group 1 metal carbonates become more thermally stable as you go down the group while group 2 metal carbonates become less thermally stable as you go down the group?

Any help is much appreciated.

I thought group 2 carbonate become more stable down the group due to decreasing charge density of cation

This is my own question not from exam.I wasn't sure about group 2.How would you explain this in a more detailed way

The more charge density ions have due to decreasing size, the more they distort electrons in the carbonate ion, making them more unstable.
