in the markscheme it says that for 13C NMR the peak at 185 ppm suggests an ester group ... COO but when I look at my chemical shifts table I can see C double bond O .......... so not sure ... is my chemical shifts table different because its the new spec ... but how will we know this is an ester using this chemical shifts table

Look at your proton NMR spectra too.

There are no peaks for an aldehyde or a carboxylic acid in the proton spectra, so the only other thing which could contain a C=O peak is an ester.

This is why you're provided with both spectra.

can you please explain to me why the peak at 2.6 is HC-CO and not c6h5-CH? because those two groups overlap when you look at your data sheet
