i don't know what to do. help

A few months ago, I had a small project with friends in Physics. This project required a bottle with a small hole underneath. While presenting the project, I used a knife I got from home to show the class every step of this project, including making the hole using the knife part.
So everything was fine and all, but I forgot it in my bag. The knife was hidden underneath some tissue, so I couldn't see it.
Today I had to go to the French agency to do a big exam, I carried my bag with me which had my notebooks and stuff to quickly review before the exam.
To enter, I needed to go through this scanner, they saw that I had a knife which I had completely forgotten about. I was in complete shock, everyone was looking at me in a strange way, the students and the guards at the gate.
The people at the agency started shouting at me about how I would get a knife with me to an agency, they thought I was coming to murder someone. They ended up taking my knife but I still did the exam.
I am afraid they will tell my school, what do I say to the principle after she probably shouts at me tomorrow? Is this a crime? I am not too sure what to do.
I am pretty sure none of the people at the agency believed me when I told them it was for a physics project. I don't know why they still let me do the exam though. I am just scared about what will happen when they tell my school.

The entire class witnessed that you used it for your project presentation, so they can back you up.
I don't think anything bad will happen. There's not much you can change about the situation, other than thinking carefully about what you are gonna say if they ask you about it.
