In H&R in case people want to go anon about things to do with their looks, sorry if i've double posted this as well

this is mostly old news but:
Lately there have been a lot of threads about what you find sexy in a person or how happy you are with your looks etc and I was surprised how many people posted clearly photoshopped pictures as what they find attractive/what they want to be like even after all the tv shows and stuff on the internet showing what goes into the process.
So yesterday i had a quick look for photoshopped people and found these:
They actually made Eva Longoria fatter.
a walk through guide of what happens to a model
    another walk through
This one looks like a totally different person.
more before and afters thanks to Sundous
    the infamous dove 'evolution'

The most recent thing I saw was dawn gets naked on the bbc. She got a team of specialists to make the perfect photograph of her, and at the end when she saw it she said she wished she could look like the photograph. despite the fact it actually was her, it looked totally different.

So after seeing all this I was inspired to see if I could make something I liked out of a less than favourable picture.
now i've only got limited photoshop skills and nothing about the setup of the picture was as it would have been irl, but I have to say it was surprising to me how much of a difference the small changes made. And I did kind of wish I could look like I do in the pic.

Added from later on in the thread:

was just wondering if anyone else has done something similar? and what peoples thoughts on it are. I know this thread has probably been done before but I haven't seen one in a while and thought it was kind of appropriate after all the looks threads lately.

I'll photoshop a picture of myself later and show the results when I'm done..

I don't know why you changed your hair colour though, it looks perfectly fine. Not that the reddish colour isn't either. :ninja:

I think from an advertising aspect, there's no harm in photoshopping a little cellulite here and there, it's their job to market products as best as possible. It's our own fault for believing into it, that's my belief.

If I was clever enough to use photoshop then I would probably edit photos of me. I hate how I look! :| those pictures are extremely enlightening though!

i changed the hair colour because it made the picture lighter, plus i started the whole thing because I was seeing what colour to dye my hair :P:

i'm not opposed to taking out cellulite or the odd scar, but imo the finished article should bear more similarity to the subject. In some photographs they don't leave one thing unchanged, and although the differences are often subtle it can lead to someone looking like a different person.

It's really easy to change proportions and stuff in Photoshop, it's hardly a secret - one tool and you're away!

I'd never seen the dove thing before. Very informative!
I don't photoshop myself seriously, but I do fiddle with the contrast/brightness of photographs sometimes to get a good pale skin/dark hair/dark eyes effect. They still look like me, just me in a dark room with moody lighting

This has nothing to do with anything, but I think you're beautiful
haha thankyou. After pic though, right?

that's the kind of thing I mean, it's not even just in the media it's average people who edit their myspace pics or whatever. I can't tell you how many times i've seen my friends look at other peoples pictures and say ''i wish i looked like that'' or "look how clear her skin is" but it's quite obvious to me that they've been edited.
I think people should face up to the fact that they look the way they look. they edited the pictures because they're not happy. but they're not happy because everyone edits their pictures.

editing like the strangest quark said; just contrast, brightness, colouring etc I think is alright because it's changing the way the picture looks, not necessarily the way the person looks.

...just in case someone was thinking I was referring to the OP [above] I wasn't -It's one of the links.
imo, death.drop looks beautiful without the airbrushing.

Anybody who only believes beauty is inversely proportional to their jean size needs their head checked.

    aw shucks.

actually i kind of feel like i've failed now. *sulks*
but actually, now you mention it with a lot of other pictures i saw i found the before shot much more attractive.
The walk through guide of that womans face for example, I thought she looked really gorgeous when they took away the bags and evened out the skin tone but as soon as they changed her actual face all her charm was gone.

is anybody else going to have a go at changing themselves? other than TuckingFypo, who i'm looking forward to seeing.

I'd give it a go, but my editing software is pretty crappy, and I can never resist the stupid effects, so you'd end up with a picture of me in high contrast with a purple filter and penguins sat on my shoulders, all in a watercolour style, or something. For some reason, I have an effect that seems to be a brush for drawing small, lifelike penguins in a range of sizes.

Every photograph I post up online, is in it's 100% true form. My understanding is that I'm not a liar, and therefore post the truth. (I don't actually own any retouching programs out of principle - a good photographer shouldn't need to edit their pictures).
I abhor girls who photoshop their own pictures. And I take all images in magazines with a pinch of salt because practically everything you see, is edited in some form.

Whilst this is your personal view, it is horribly flawed and incorrect. Every top photographer retouches his/her photos, whether they be working with film or digital mediums. The great Ansel Adams used to edit his photos massively and if he did it, well I think we can. Just because you're editing photos, it doesn't mean the photo was 'bad', its just that you want to add an extra little touch or effect. Its perfectly usual.

I like your before picture more personally.

I could be really mean and put some of the most blatently photoshopped photos ive ever seen on here of someone I know but I wont.

The only time I edit my photos is to make them black and white usually, or if use some kind of effect to make it cartoony for example. Always blatently done, I dont photoshop out loads of spots and eye bags and stuff like that and then claim its me as normal. What annoys me more than photoshopping though is when girls post a pic and say 'Me with no make up' when you can blatently tell she does have make up on. Ill get cracking and see if I can find a pic to photoshop and ill post before/after

What did photographers do before retouching? They used their cameras, lighting, filters and technique. I understand where you're coming from, but retouching is such a big deal these days because people are lazy and would rather spend money on editing rather than time and effort reshooting. I know you won't agree with me, but that's the wonder of personal opinion! hehe.

I hate it when girls post pictures with captions saying, "me first thing in the morning - au natural!" or something stupid when they are blatantly coated in make up! Why bother lying like that
