AQA Sociology ADV Paper 1 - 5th/06/2018
AQA Sociology ADV Paper 2 - 13th/06/2018
AQA Sociology ADV Paper 3 - 15th/06/2018
For those doing these three papers, here we can share revision tools/notes and answer people's questions.
My question is what topics are in paper 1, paper 2 and paper 3, this way i can focus on the topics needed with more detail instead of looking at the whole 2 years worth of material.
Thank you.

I wrote that functionalism is out dated, it’s a consensus view so it dosent regard any inequality in society, wasn’t too sure about it tbh

i did a paragraph on postmodernism and yeah basically said it was outdated and there’s so much diversity now so can’t transmit social solidarity
Then I wrote like three lines on how functionalism is too positive and how there’s higher levels of crime which functionalists ignore, cuz I ran out of time 😭

i wrote something along the same lines, value consensus doesnt exist anymore because we live in a multi cultural society with conflicting views
'religion' can not be used as an institution to promote social solidarity anymore because society has become more secular
what did u write for the theory and methods question? i got so confused, only wrote about weaknesses - how can u observe pupils that wont even be at school? what strengths did you mention?

Good = don't over long period of time allowing clear pattern to emerge and how this is important in understanding the effect of exclusions
Bad = A lot of data and they may get too close to the groups and start romanticising them that leads to bats on the reporting of exclusion
Bad = only a small group so disliked my positivists and lack reliability and representativeness.
and I countered each point with evaluation.

I structured the 30 marker by theories ... e.g.
- New Right: state schools fail working class kids because comprehensive 'one size fits all' doesn't work.
- Functionalism: inequality is natural because it's meritocratic
- Marxism: cultural capital + myth of meritocracy
Anyone else do this way?

The extract talked about internal and external factors so thats what we had to use, from what I know. So I just structured the essay as internal and external factors, and then concluded that its due to both factors but class does not play as much of a role as it used.

P1- material deprevation (linked to item)
P2 - socialisation (linked to item) and parental attitudes
P3- labelling and sfp (item link)
P4-speech codes
And then linked to differences in ethnic achievement in conclusion
I think that you could bring in theory as long as you centred it around class differences

The 30 mark asked us the differences in social class achievements and refered to internal and external factors and how some of them linked. Did you not have to mentioned factors such as material deprivation, cultural deprivation, labelling, streaming, SFP etc?

How was paper 2 everyone?
I do families and households, and media.
Anyone else doing media I’m so glad the hypodermic syringe came up!
The families and households but I wasn’t too happy about but I still answers the questions ok-ish.
I also found it really hard to put sociologists down but I could identify what a Marxist would think or feminist overall.
Could have gone better, could have been a lot worse
