I'll be applying for university soon (I'm currently in year 12) and I'd really like to continue studying science, however, I've only been able able to study BTEC science in sixth form rather than traditional science A Levels.

I imagine this puts me at a slight disadvantage as BTECs are less academic than their A Level counterparts. Can anyone recommend any suitable science degrees for BTEC science students?

Many thanks for your help!

P.S. If I am mistaken about being at a slight disadvantage due to me doing BTEC, please do let me know!

for many svience courses especially in top universities it requires an a level in either biology, chemistry or maths in addition to btec extended diploma in applied science. This is such a wide range can you make it more specific to assist you. are you looking at things like biochem or psychology or nursing.

What are your grades because some will ask for distinctions and distinction stars to do sciences such as biosciences like human biology, biology or biomedical sciences but you can do any science in biology, chemistry or physics

I've looked at studying Biology in general, but ideally I'll be studying something like Microbiology or Biomedical Science.

Currently, I'm fluxuating between Merit and Distinction, I'm hoping I'll be able to push it to a distinction by the end of year 13.

you will get into some universities on btec alone but many will require an a level as well. go to ucas course search place in the subject and check under entry requirements and this will tell who will require a level and who wont.

It's a case of looking at individual university admisisons requirements. As a few examples for Biomed:

Chester: BTEC Extended Diploma (Applied Science): DMM BTEC Diploma (Applied Science): D*D*

Staffordshire: BTEC: DMM Applied Science

UCLAN: BTEC Extended Diploma: Distinction, Distinction, Merit
