15.6 inch screen and 8 hour battery life are a bit hard to get together. Recommend you go for a smaller screen size.

If you can stretch that budget a little, this laptop is basically perfect for students. Modern i5 and 8GB of RAM which is the ideal combination for almost all students, a decent sized high resolution display and plenty of storage. Can't really go far wrong. Battery life is always hit and miss in laptops and it's totally subjective to begin with. 8 hours of writing essays is not the same as 8 hours of watching YouTube videos. You'll get perfectly adequate battery life but whether it's 8 hours really depends on what you're doing.

The battery of 8 hours isn't that necessary - I'll mainly be using it at home.
