Peterhouse, because we have like..almost no ugly bits at all. The William Stone Building is the only modern/ugly thing anywhere in sight, and the rest is absolutely gorgeous. All the other pretty colleges seem to have large areas or grounds that are ugly somewhere or another. Peterhouse never expanded that much, so has managed to avoid this.

Edit: Queens' only has four votes though? Appalling! Surely our cloister court and the bridge/riverside buildings combo get us -some- credit?
Yep, definitely. Drop dead gorgeous!

Fen court isn't exactly a Gothic masterpiece...

But I agree, Peterhouse is beautiful. One thing I don't get, is that Gisbourne court is often considered horrible victoriana, is this just architectural snobbery, or is there something I'm missing? I think it's really nice.

Wow, I'd never thought of it like that.

Thanks for the platitudes.

That was unecessarily mean.

No, his/her post was unnecessarily patronising.

I didn't read it that way, and I only just saw that it was a reply to yours as opposed to a stand alone post. Nonetheless, I could see myself accidentally saying something like that, and probably would be very surprised if it got pounced upon.

I don't wish to get into an argument here, but there are two ways of reading it:

1) patronising, or;
2) So idiotic that it deserves a slap (and essentially underpinned by an anti-materialist notion of meaning, that places responsibility at the feet of that person who creates an utterance, or an ethical or aesthetic standpoint, rather than seeing it as socially determined).

I was guessing the former.

I was guessing the latter. I don't think we'll agree, so I'll leave it at that.

Well, I'm not sure if subjective views of aesthetics or ethics are any more "anti-materialist" than socially defined ones.

But yes, the post was certainly unthinking. Stating something so blindingly obvious as if it's an interesting point that we may have failed to realise... I for one commend your harshness.
