I think it's because they are dogs that are used to help people (guard/sniffer dogs, herding animals) so they ideally have names with two syllables because the commands you give are one syllable and it helps the dog with understanding what you are asking it to do.

I guess they are being specific to the German Shepherd as it looks to be a site for owner's of them particular dogs (although the names could be used for any breed...).

Hm thanks for the replies, his name is Jett now, the rest of the family insist :\ Not too good if its best to give a 2 syllable name but I'l just have to nickname him jetti.
