An often repeated argument against home education is that children will miss out on science practical work as few homes have the facilities that a secondary school science lab has. However, is such practical work only worthwhile or useful for a laboratory based career? I consider it to be of very limited value for the following:

1. Building, decorating, and DIY.

2. The repair and maintenance of vehicles and machinery.

3. Gardening, horticulture, landscaping, and forestry.

4. Factory work.

All of which are very much hands-on careers involving much practical work.
