Bank account?

What British bank should I make an account in? I'm going to study in the UK in September.
There are a small number of main banks which are on the high street which have all the main clearing bank services ' (known as 'checking account' services in the US). These will have branches in most towns; Lloyds Bank, Barclays Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS - it also owns NatWest Bank in England,) and HSBC. Any of these are fine - you can get a debit card and account. You can access cash from any cash machine regardless of the bank you are with, generally without paying a fee. Other smaller banks but that often have good services are Nationwide and Santander, but they have fewer branches.
