i am bit confused about the naming of this organic compound

so i found out that the name for this compound is (chloromethyl) benzene but i got a couple questions.

firstly, when naming a benzene derivative like this and they use the bracket, is it used to show that both groups are attached to the same carbon. (in this case methyl and chloro groups both attached to the same Carbon atom)

secondly, does alphabetical rule still apply in the sense, so chloro before methyl because c comes before m in alphabetical order?
