So i had my English language GCSE paper 1 on Tuesday and i think i have totally messed it up. The first section went quite good, timings started off okay but then i totally lost track of time and ended up having just over 10 minutes to read and complete question 5, which is worth half of the marks of the paper! I totally panicked and stupidly chose to do the story/narrative instead of the description- which i could have done relatively more effectively in the very short amount of time i had left. And so when the exam was up i had only written half of a page, not even really a full paragraph and hadn't even got to the 'unexpected' part of the story, which was what the short story was supposed to be about. Do you think i will end up failing because of this?

Do you're very best tomorrow. I've never really seen grade boundaries for English language so you're best off just timing yourself on this one.

My advice if you're starting to run out of time do the final question straight away. That question usually is easier to get the marks for because not everyone gets up to it

I had the exact same problem.

For paper 2, I would suggest doing the paper smartly. You've pretty much shot off the top 3 grades (7, 8 and 9) but depending on how well you did you could get a 6 for Paper 1 (more likely a 5)

I would work differently this time, spend time understanding the texts and answer Q1 as and when you see the possible responses instead of reading and then responding. Spend about 12 minutes on Q2, it doesn't require inferences, it's a summary of differences or similarities.

Thank you! Paper 2 went a lot better, i made sure to save over 30 mins for the last section, so hopefully that'll bring my grade up
