Need copies of GCE Certificates

Hi,
I attended a job interview the other day (I'm in my early 60's) and they insisted that that they will not take the application further unless they see copies of my GCE certificates in Maths & English (due to the nature of the job) from the 1970's but I have no idea where they are. I've searched high and low and they are nowhere to be found. It doesn't help that I've moved many times.. I gave them the grades in the application but they insist on the certificates.

Can anyone offer any suggestions. I took the exams in Loughborough but have no idea who the exam boards were.

Email them? Try that first but if nothing works then go to Loughborough. Atleast you’re not living in another country and it’s only 3 hrs away. If you want to get accepted then try to make time and go there. If the school doesn’t have it then best advice is to search everything 377373x

Try: https://www.gov.uk/replacement-exam-certificate/if-your-old-exam-board-no-longer-exists. I think if you took the exams in Loughborough, the old exam board would either be the East Midland Board or Midland Examining Group, which are both now merged into OCR.

If that's correct, you'd have to ask OCR for the certificates: http://www.ocr.org.uk/students/lost-or-incorrect-certificates/.

Yes, thought of that..would have to wait till monday.

I tried explaining to the interviewer that the certificates would be hard to find (if at all) but they wont process the application further unless they have proof. Ive not heard of that before..

I've just been on https://www.gov.uk/replacement-exam-certificate but need the info first. Lets hope they job stays open.. fingers crossed.

thanks folks..

No problem - the only catch is OCR say obtaining a certificate takes around a month.

I'll try on Monday.. Hopefully the interviewer or rather possible future employer will understand. Surely they must have come across this difficulty before... I'venot heard of anyone demanding certificates before..

Thanks for all of your suggestions and help.
I contacted the exam people and they are in the process of searching for the results. I also contacted the employer-to-be to explain and they said they would accept the exam results proof from the exam board. Will keep you informed.. Thanks again..
