when going to uni, which is better? going to home town uni or moving away?

im not sure which is better, move away or stay in your home town but still move out of home?
my brother said staying in your home town is better especially if the uni is good because if your housemates annoy you or theres noise at exam period you can sleep in your family home
what do you guys think with experience?

I think that moving away is better. Helps start with the process of becoming independent! (Plus my home town it awful_

Unless you're terrified of debt, and actually living at home, you shouldn't really allow it to affect your decision either way.

Go with the best possible course and the best possible university, in a place that you like. Regardless of where that is.

There is no right answer to that question - for some people it makes sense for them to stay at home and commute, for others it doesn't. Ignore what your brother says - what would you prefer to do?
I think it's okay to stay in your home town if you move out from home, unless you really dont have enough money to move out, in which case its better to stay at home and go to uni than not go at all if you want a degree.

To some extent it depends on whether you want to be near or far away from your family, what facilities are in your home and the uni town, the travelling costs etc.

What would you prefer to do? And how do you rate the course at your local uni? Its completely down to personal preference
I decided to stay very close to home [I live in halls though] and I very much regret it. It does have its perks mind, but I reckon staying so close has made me a bit less independent.

I start uni in sept and i am moving away. I just think its more exciting moving away, living with new people, exploring a new town/city etc.

I also think the whole uni experience will be much better moving away from home, makes you grow up and not rely on parents helping you all the time.

Also if you do move away, you can go home on sumer hols etc and see your friends and family then. I look at it like this i have lived at home in the same town all my life so why not go explore a new town =) meet great new ppl.

I'm planning on going to my home town uni, but mostly because it has the best course for me. There are other factors in it too though- knowing the city and not having as much debt come under these. I can understand completely why people would go to uni away from home though.

Is liverpool uni any good

Well, I live in a rural area, so if I stayed here that would be atrocious. But even if I lived in a big city, I think I'd like to move somewhere different - living in one place all my life would get so boring!

Move away... I know it's a personal decision but I wouldn't enjoy uni nearly as much if i'd stayed at home/halls in home city. Uni is about meeting new people, new experiences etc and imo you don't do that nearly as well if you stay at home.
Move away - I want to experience a new place. I also need to become more independant and I'm bored where I live anyway.
I've been having the same problem recently, trying to decide, but even though it's a nerve racking thought, I'm leaning more towards moving away myself. I'd miss my family and living alone for the first time is scary, but also very exciting! It'll be good to become more independant and less reliant on your family, and you can also be a bit more adult as you're responsible for everything you do, when you eat, sleep, go out, go to class etc
I'm excited to explore a new city too, it's on average 3 years of your entire life, so why not do it whilst you have the chance? Branch out from your family and meet new people =3 everyone I know says to go away whilst you can! ^^ sure it's scary, but it prepares you for the future and gives you a great taste of independance =D

I'd say definitely move away - it allows you to be more independent and gives a muuuch better experience IMO
And if you want to stay in your home town DEFINITELY live in halls - it's what the uni experience is all about!

I'm planning on doing this or go to another yorkshire uni so I can commute. I'd move away but I just love my city (sheffield) to much. I'm an avid SWFC fan and a lot of my mates are staying here. People say you should move away, explore a new city, meet new people, etc. but in all honesty I don't want to. I love sheffield, I already have my mates, and I don't want to leave. Plus it's much cheaper
BigJ97 - I'm exactly the same, I'm in Y12, have lived in Sheffield all my life and I'm just starting to look at personal statements and which uni I want to go to etc. For me Sheffield looks like a brilliant student city, the nightlife is awesome, some halls like Endcliffe are brand new, plus I've had a season ticket at Hillsborough for a few years now and the thought of giving that up is appalling  Some people say it hinders your independence but as far as I can see, if you're living in halls then it doesn't make much of a difference, plus my parents will be moving away once I've finished school so I can't exactly rely on them. As for moving away and discovering somewhere new - that's a fair point, but what if I'm happy where I am?

Me and 4 or 5 mates are all planning on going to Hallam so we're gonna get a house together. And that'll be the most fun I'll ever have

Oh yeah, that's by far the most important bit
