In this image why do you have to subtract but in the other image it's the direct answer. What I mean is why is it 80-71 but in the 2nd image there is no subtracting and it's simply 10?

one says less than the other says longer than
for the less than you are going from zero to 10 so there is no need to subract
for the longer than you are going from 71 to 80
you need to calculate the difference
