I’ve seen a few posts about how being in the RAF can affect your relationship with your other half. So I just want abit more information about how it’ll be.

I’m looking to join the RAF and I’m interested in the Cyberspace communication specialist (IT technician). What I want to know is how often will I be able to see her? How often will I be away for? And what’s your experience?

Hey bro I currently serve in the navy and have a lot of friends in the RAF.

For your basic training contact will be minimal. But considering how long your planning on serving for this will be nothing. I learnt in basic that my girl was gonna stick by me for the rest of my life. And if she really loves you, she will do the same.

If you get through phase 1, then your sorted. Both career wise and relationship wise.

As for contact whilst actively serving... when not deployed operationally you’ll be home every weekend man, and probably on Thursday nights as the military tend not to work Fridays or only half days on a Friday to compensate travel time to get home. You’ll be able to text and call whenever you want!

When deployed contacts not to be either. I can’t speak for the raf as I’m a good old sailor but we get unlimited emails, it’s just like texting! And I can imagine as you are land based you’ll get phone calls etc aswell!!

Don’t let a girl stop you from a career that cannot beat another. If she loves you. She will stick by you.

I met my girl 3 months before I was due to start basic, and now, 3/4 years later we have our own house and are expecting a little one. The military changes you. You’ll learn how to cope with long distance relationships in no way anyone else can. You got this bro and I’m sure she does too
