These Buggers Wont Leave Me Alone...

...Yes Im talking about Mouth Ulcers!

Anyone else get slightly irritated with them? I mean my last ''batch'' of mouth ulcers left me back in January and I haven't had one since until I felt a slight urge in my gum last week Friday. It now appears I have 2 (one at the back of my mouth - near my Tonsil and another on the gum where my two front small teeth are). Trying to eat my dinner and drink has been an absolute nightmare as well as brushing my teeth.

Went to Boots earlier to try and get some stuff to help clear it, but the products the woman offered was like £4.99+, last time I brought Ambesol and that evapourated after only two uses!

I guess I can only just sit through it and wait for it to pass - and eat lots of fruit and veg and drink plenty:p:

I can suggest something called covonia throat spray. I know stuff can be expensive but the alternative is a big horrid ulcer.

Get some rest. I only get these ulcers around coursework deadlines
Yea I said to the woman in Boots, ''do you not have a spray of some kind that can help with Ulcers?'', she said ''no, there is no such thing as sprays for Ulcers''.......

Yea i got 5 essays to do and 2 portfolios to have done for after Easter so I guess its that that im starting to panic over already! And then with exams looming.....odear

I get them when I'm very run down. They're not very nice to be honest. I do like that anbesol stuff! Maybe you just didn't keep the lid on tightly enough? Mine has never evaporated like that. Although the old faithful bonjela is still brilliant.
How long did it take for yours to clear with Anbesol stuff?? I mean i tried it twice and didn't see much improvement so, went back to the old remedy of warm salt water or TCP diluted. Bonjela, I put on bt it either gets licked off or it slides off the area and then im forever in the mirror trying to apply the damn thing again with a cotton bud.

I get them loads. Damn annoying. Bonjela only serves as a 5min pain relief for me.

haha. I do it with my fingers actually, because cotton buds to soak it up a bit! Salt water just makes me feel sick and I end up dancing around the bathroom in pain but also trying not to vomit. Yuck.

The anbesol took probably about 2 days so stop the constant irritation. It helps that I like the taste, so if it ever began to start hurting I'd just pop more on.

I have exactly the same problem! I am plagued by them. Mostly, as with a lot of people, when I am run down. Really glad the OP started this thread as I was after the same sort of advice.

Ulcers are horrible things and when you have one its so hard to think about anything else. I've recently come out of hospital after getting meningecoccal septecaemia and meningitis and my boyfriend researched the illness thoroughly. Turns out one of the (granted, many) causes are ulcers that become infected and I had four really horrible ones when I became ill. I'm not by any means saying all ulcers will lead to anything so serious but people shouldn't underestimate them.
I get them when I'm stressed sometimes.

Pour salt into them - it does sting but it also works.

Ulcers occur often for people who smoke, don't brush their teeth regularly/properly and those with rundown immune systems.

So if you smoke, get used to them

Your best bet, brush your teeth thoroughly in the morning and at night and use a strong mouthwash (I recommend green Listerine) but don't rinse your mouth out with water after you have used the mouthwash. If you do this, you can sometimes find that you will lose a couple of layers of skin from the inside of your mouth to start with. This is because the active ingredients in mouthwash eat away all the yucky dead crap inside your mouth to make it super clean ^__^
Also, I cannot stress enough the importance of flossing. There is so much crap gets stuck between teeth and brushing doesn't remove it, yuck. So make sure you floss thoroughly too so there aren't any icky germs lurking around to aggravate your gob =]
i get them when run down and stressed, normally i jsut have to spend the next week sleeping and having bonjella put on them, although i do genrally eat more than stays on the ulcer

 I can assure you I brush my teeth 3 times a day, I floss, use mouth wash and take good care of my teeth - thanks for your advice but im not a skank who doesnt take care of my teeth. As for the smoking, I don't do that either.

Only two things I can put it down to is either im run down - stressing because of the work load I have to do OR its because I have eatin far too much chocolate lately:rolleyes:

I get them pretty regularly, and when I look back at the times that I get them I can see that I'm normally pretty stressed during those times. I'm not unhealthy, I have good dental hygeine, I just get ulcers. *shrug*

They're not the worst things in the world. Unless they're in a particularly inconvenient place (which they often are...) I only really notice them when I try to eat. Chocolate is the worst. Aargh.

if youre getting loads you should go to your gp
I got about 10 round my A Levels (not all at the same time though)! I only really get them when I'm stressed over something like that. I find its best to get some strong antibacterial mouthwash and then just keep applying bonjela or anbesol until they go away. I've never tried salt water just because the thought of it makes me ill!
Try using something like Bovril or Marmite, or some other very salty food. It's very painful for about five seconds after you use it, but it's worth it - I always find mine go away after doing this once, or twice at the most.

Don't worry - it's far more likely to be stress that's the problem. Everyone I know who gets them regularly has good dental hygiene, like you - they're just stressed.

meh
I get them a lot. A couple of years I go I got them real bad and went to my GP. He gave me these tablets (on perscription) that you held on for about 10 minutes and they effectively got rid of them straight away (they reduced the size a lot and numbed the pain for what was left). Might be worth a shot at your GP if they are causing you real bother.

I've got three just now, and I think this is just due to not looking after myself (term at uni ended a week ago, there's been a lot of alcohol/unhealthy food and not much cleaning since then). I bought some stuff called "Soothagel" (about £2.50) which I find works relatively well.
Bonjela stings like a bugger. More so than when you accidently bite an ulcer.

I don't usually put anything on them, I just wait for them to go naturally which takes about a week or so. During that week it's slow eating and small mouthfuls for me.
Doing that, I save money as well.
