I had my AQA A-Level Chemistry paper 2 exam this week. For one question we had to draw the skeletal formula for diethyl amine, as shown in the image. Would I lose a mark for not drawing the H? I am worried about losing marks because I need an A*
It was worth 2 marks because there were 3 molecules you had to draw and I drew 2 of them. I cannot remember what the other one was. Also, I thought covalent bonds involving hydrogen are omitted from skeletal formulae?
You omit hydrogens that are part of a carbon chain - but not if the hydrogen is part of a functional group, e.g. NH2 or OH - otherwise it would seem that you're just writing C-N or C-O instead of C-NH2 or C-OH - which is quite different
