OCR Gateway Science

If anyone is interested the paper/mark scheme for the January 2008 OCR Gateway papers (C1, P1, B1) and (C2, P2, B2) are now on their website. This is a new course so they released the past papers early so this year's students have some past papers to look at.

In the C1, P1 and B1 paper it was 45/60 for A* and 37/60 for A... thats really pretty normal.

In the second paper (C2, P2, B2) it was 42/60 for A*; and 34/60 for A. Surely this is very low boundries... I thought retake exams were harder!

I got 95/100 UMS in the first paper and 99/100 UMS in the second paper, so I'm not complaining - if you did this paper, how did you find it? And do you think the grade boundries are correct for the paper?
I did the 2007 versions of those papers, and I thought that the grade boundaries for the actual papers were fair, but the Science in The News/can'do task element brought most people's grades down by loads- there was one girl who got 100 UMS on one paper and something like 95 UMS on the other and she still got an A because of her Science in The News.

Do you know if the papers and mark schemes for the Biology (B1, B2, B3) Chemistry (C1, C2, C3) and Physics (P1, P2, P3) are on the website too? I did these in January. Physics was awful- the worst exam paper I have ever had and everyone thought the same, but somehow I managed to get 96 UMS when I didn't even finish and I know I got some wrong out of those I did, so the grade boundaries must be really low

The 2008 papers are there, plus the mark schemes, I'll link you to the individual sciences.

And yeah, science in the news was well hard! I only got 25/36! But the can-do tasks were a peice of piss. Got 24/24. But 49/60 was only an A... lucky my exam results were good.

Also we had this guy in our school last year, he got 100/100 for BOTH papers!! I was like...
Thanks a lot for the links

I know I totally agree- I think most people got 24/24 for Can Do Tasks but Science in The News was awful. I got off the scale for one piece for Biology, which probably means it was a U......oh well it didn't count because I got much better in the next piece
We were the first year to do this new Science Course last year in year 10, so teachers didn't know what to expect in Science in The News and only gave us an hour to do each piece, so we all did pretty rubbish. This year though we had to do 3 more to try and improve our mark and we have 2 hours now so everyone has done a lot lot better.

In my school there are quite a few people who got 100 UMS on at least one paper out of the Bio/Chem/Physics ones, especially Chemistry because it was by far the easiest, but one girl got 100 UMS on all 3!!

at my school at least ten people got three 100's in the separate science (it is compulsory to do all of them). another 15 got 2 100's out of three (myself included) and most of the rest of the year got at least one hundred. in science in the news the average was 32 for the year with several people getting full marks. this shows the exams are very easy not hard.
