We might well be entering into a paradoxical phase of capitalism in which increasing automation and AI start to generate permanent high unemployment levels. As such unemployment goes up, however, so fewer people will have incomes with which to buy the products and services of automated enterprises. It could take several decades before the impact of automation and AI are felt in these terms though.
