Is it ok to use a quote in your personal statement?

Then, it is probably necessary to put the reference at the bottom.

Am I correct? Or is referencing a no-go area in your dissertation. Has anyone done this and got into uni with no trouble?

I read an article with advice on how to write your personal statement, and it recommends not using any quotes because your personal statement is about you and your own ideas, not the words of someone else

Some people use quotes, and they can work quite well- however I personally was advised against them.
If your quote works though and is a good opening way as to how you want to introduce your love for the subject(or in some other way later on), then go for it.
I'm not sure as to how referencing would go, you'd probably mention it when you say the quote, i.e. Walt Disney said________ or in the book ____ it says ______

If it is very relevant to your course and fits in nicely with your PS then go for it. Otherwise, don’t bother.
