The Student Room Group

Struggling to find a replacement tenant.

I was supposed to be moving into a student house next week with my friends in Selly Oak. I decided about two months ago that I would be better off staying home (money, etc) as I don't live too far, and gone about trying to find someone to take my room.

I've just been really unlucky. I put it on numerous Facebook groups multiple times, paid for SpareRoom twice, and posted it on other websites too. I've even gone into Selly Oak with photocopied ads to put in shop windows. I've had three viewings in total and nobody has wanted to take it as it has been left in such a mess as the tenants are currently moving out. I can't say I blame them for turning it down.

At this rate I'm just going to be paying dead rent for somewhere I'm not living. This has been going on whilst doing exams and other things outside of uni. It's been a really stressful couple of months and I was hoping it would be over soon.

Has anybody else been in this situation?

Lesson learnt, never sign anything spontaneously!

With any luck the tenant will move out early to go home. In that case they will have to tidy up to get the deposit back. I cant blame them at the moment as they have paid rent and its intrusive having people looking round.

You still have plenty of time before the exam results and uni starting. You have made a great effort, but tbh too early imo with a sitting tenant. Hopefully when they have left and its left in good condition, then someone will be more inclined to take it. You also need to be cautious who you let in with respect to the other tenants.
