Hey! Was just wondering if you know how competitive the Journalism and Media and Politics and International Relations course is and what the admission team looks for?

Thank you for your time!

Hi @jessica1677 - thank you for your email and interest in our Politics & International Relations & Journalism, Media & Communications programme. It is a great programme! Entry requirements differ depending on where you are from/what qualifications you are undertaking, but the course is relatively competitive. Do you mind if I ask where you are from/what qualifications you are currently taking? It will help me to advise you better

I look forward to hearing from you! Best wishes - Sarah - Strathclyde rep

Oh, I actually got an unconditional just a few days ago!
But, I had all As in both Nat 5 and Highers but I was wondering if the admission team would base their decision on race (I'm mixed race) and the income background because I checked before I applied that I was in the bottom 10 per cent. Personally, I was quite worried that would affect anything?

Thank you!

Hi @jessica1677 - apologies for the delay in getting back to you the University has just reopened today after the Christmas Break. Congratulations on your unconditional offer - that's great news!

There are multiple factors our Admissions Team will consider when making their decision on an application, however this decision would never be influenced by race. We do sometimes make reduced offers for students from a lower income background, by way of widening access to University, however if you had already achieved all A's in both Nat 5 and Highers it seems you would not have need a reduced offer anyway as you had obiously already met the entry requirements by doing so well in your exams (well done you!) If you have received an unconditional offer then there is no need to worry as you do not need to fulfill any further conditions in order to take up your place (if you decide you wish to do this)

I hope this is helpful but please let me know if you have any further questions I can help with.

Best wishes - Sarah - Strathclyde Official Rep

Hi @noemibaki,

Thanks for your message. The university should be getting back to you over the next few weeks. They have until the 31st March to reply with a decision. You have until the end of May to respond to this decision.

If you have any other questions about the LLB itself then I’d be happy to help.

Hi! I'm going to apply to uni in the autumn and I wanted to know about a few things. I've written a letter about Lithuanian student requirements but still haven't heard from them. I would appreciate if you could tell me if any particular state exams are needed when applying, for instance Mathematics.I would be interested in knowing whether work experience is considered as a bonus point because I work as a journalist at my local newspaper and I would like to study a journalism course. Thanks!
Hi @gabielle,

You might find this information on our website useful:
https://www.strath.ac.uk/studywithus/internationalstudents/yourcountry/lithuania/

Alternatively, you can email [email protected] and they'll be able to help you out.

The Journalism course requires you to have English, Maths and good grades in essay based subjects.

Work experience is always good to have on your CV as it shows that you're really passionate about the course. I would recommend writing about your work experience in your personal statement when applying to the university.

If you have any other questions then just let me know.

Thanks for such a quick reply!
I've already contacted them a few weeks ago. Do they require English and Math grades or exams? If it requires a math exam, will I be able to get an offer, since I'm not very good at math, but everything else I have good grades?
Hi @gabielle,

My understanding is that as long as you have good grades in English and other related subjects then you have a good chance. Maths is necessary but I don't think there is as much emphasis on this subject as the English related subjects.

Hi, I’ve accepted a conditional offer to study pharmacy and I always hear about reading lists over summer etc. Do all courses have reading lists? Also is it essential to get all textbooks on reading lists because I know they’re expensive.
