Hey everyone,

I am going to BU to study nursing this September, however, I am struggling to choose between halls and hospital accommodation. Having the 'student experience' and socializing is a really important factor for me at my time in university, so i want to go and live in halls. But the BU accommodation page 'Strongly advises' nursing students stay in hospital accommodation.

I was wondering if there are and BU students who could give their advice on what to do? I know I will have work placements with odd shifts, but bus passes are included in rent and I will also be able to cycle or walk if I have too. Also, the halls are closer to the town and nightlife. Not only this, I don't mind having noisy flatmates as I can sleep with earplugs in.

Thankyou !!!

I had to do a horrible job for a weak or two cleaning student rooms. I am not a student at Bournemouth Uni but I was taking summer job cleaning the rooms. Please remember when you move in to complain every way you can about the room I hated the job and quit and I want the cleaning company to get a bad rep for cleaning standards.

Hey,
I'm a second year student at BU and I help out on The Student Room. From what I have seen, there are many people who are in the same situation as yourself and there are pros and cons to both.

Halls are great because you get to have the 'student experience' and you are close to the nightlife and shops etc but then the nursing accommodation is good because you are in the right location for your placement and you may find that the nursing accommodation is slightly less lively as there is a greater understanding between you all that live there, that you may have late shifts etc.

Something to bare in mind - what's holding you back from living in the nursing accommodation? If it's the socialising, how many times a week do you think you will go out? Would it work out cheaper to live in nursing accommodation and then just commmute to the town/sleep round a friends if you want to go out for the night? Also if the uni reccommends a certain acommodation they are doing it for your best interests. If you are someone who is a party crazy then halls may be more suited to you but then how much time are you going to have to do that, if you're studying adult nursing?

Don't know if that helps or not?

Hey did you apply in the end? I'm looking at doing so, the whole travelling between campus and hospital placement (which could be an hour away) is putting me off!

Hi, have you both looked at the hospital accommodation? I've provided a link here: https://www.bournemouth.ac.uk/why-bu...-accommodation There are plenty of accommodation options available including the hospital accommodation, which depending on your placement would require you to travel to campus when you are due in for lectures, there's halls of residence but be aware that parking around Bournemouth is quite sparse but you would be at the Lansdowne campus so nice and close to lectures, there's also the option of privately rented accommodation which you may be able to find with other health care workers who also have placements? Most of the student lets are in areas called Charminster and Winton which mostly have on road parking and are only a 15-20 minute walk from campus or a short bus journey away.

Sorry I can't be more specific, to get full information on all options available give us an email: [email protected]

If you have any other questions please ask and I'll do my best to help :-)
