If I live at home will I make friends or have a girlfriend at university?

Would my chances of being invited to parties diminish?

Also has anyone found it hard to make friends or have a girlfriend?
I would recommend living away. You’ll probably still get friends but you’ll have less friends definitely and the relationships might not be as close. Living away is awful to start off with but it’s much better and will prepare you.

depends on how close you live to the uni
I don't think your chances of getting invited to places would diminish--such things mostly rely on how open you are to hanging out with said people and how spontaneous you are! I usually advise people to try and say "yes" as often as possible as they start university--with the obvious common sense caveat to that; don't say "yes" to anything you aren't comfortable with, that's illegal or just defies common sense. But say "yes" in the sense of; say yes to invites, say yes to hanging out with people, say yes to grabbing coffee with a group of people, etc. etc. That sort of openness will catch on and people will respond to that and keep inviting ya!

Hello!

As a student at the University of Gloucestershire, I know a lot of students that commute! As far as I'm aware, it has not had a negative impact on their social life. You will be invited to events and when you meet new people, depending on how much space they have and how far away you live, you may be invited to stay with them after events to save you travelling home. I would advise you to attend as many events and try as many clubs and societies as possible to meet a wide range of people so that you find some great friends. Freshers week is about meeting new people and finding new hobbies!

However, if you do go to university and find it difficult to socialise while commuting, there are people that drop out of university and uni accommodation, therefore you may be able to apply to live in halls later in the year - depending on the university.

I hope this helps!
