I have PCOS which sucks. It causes heavy, irregular, long and painful periods. I'm on desogestrel rn but it's honestly such a difficult thing to take it at the same time every day. At least with antidepressants there isn't such a time restraint.
I've heard that IUS's and implants can both stop periods. They are progesterone only, just like my current pills which have mostly stopped my periods. But I want something more permanent. I never want children, especially not biological bc of ethical and genetic reasons, but I'm way too young to be accepted for a hysterectomy or even ablation from what I've read.
My mum has told me that IUD's hurt a lot when they go in, so I'm a bit concerned about that. Mirena lasts for 5 years though, better than the 3 for the implant. But, the most important thing: which will make me more likely to have lighter if any periods, with least side effects (I'm especially concerned about mood changes and weight gain).
The implant will likely make your periods lighter but constant, I need the pill alongside it to stop the prolonged bleeding Haven't heard about the IUS everyone is different so research and give one a try x

Thank you. I am leaning towards the Mirena IUS since it lasts longer and I've heard it does usually reduce bleeding a lot if not completely. I am calling my local CASH clinic tomorrow to book a consultation, they will talk me through my options there before they do anything. However, right now I am definitely leaning towards the IUS.

It does sound great I would of went for it if I had the courage but its so squeamish and I imagine painful for me plus I got put off by the horror stories haha
Hope your appointment goes well remember to ask as many questions as you can about what you want to know x

Thank you very much
Don't worry about the pain of insertion for the IUD. Compared to 5 years of protection, I really wouldn't be too concerned about it. I would speak to your doctor, who will know you and your condition best, about your options. I currently have the implant and it's working out great for me, stopped my periods completely for most of the time I've had it in (2.5 years) and while I am starting to get painful periods again I know I can control it by taking the mini pill, though I'm likely just going to have the implant replaced early and see if that works. If the pill is working out for you though, then the implant might too. It really depends on your preference and what your doctor might advise, but it sounds like both could be very viable options

Thank you very much. I will see my doctor again and tell them that I want to switch from the mini pill to ius. It does sound very good for me so I hope I can have it done soon
