I don't think it's any more expensive than most significant cities.

Yeah, it's pretty good. Not huge scale, but more bars and restaurants than you could ever need, and a few respectable nightclubs.
I'd say it's pretty expensive, certainly more expensive than Liverpool, and not as good either. That said, there are plenty of student nights so even if you're totally skint, you can usually still afford to go out every now and again.

Personally I hate all the studenty places, mainly because there are students there. It's all generic crap music, girls getting far too drunk and going home with the nearest thing resembling a penis. I find that Edinburgh is great if you're looking for something a little bit alternative. Particularly if you're more into pubs than clubs then it's perfect.

Definitely!

There are so many cute and weird pubs to go to, like the Last Drop, or Brass Monkey.

Cost is off putting though, but Edinburgh overall is a very expensive city.

Most clubs in Edinburgh run student nights with cheap promos, Liquid Rooms on a Wed is pretty popular, as are a few places on George Street. The Cowgate is student friendly if a bit dirty!
OK cheers guys, that's a help! Sounds good as I usually prefer pubs, with the odd bit of clubbing now and again  I've asked this before, and I know it sounds silly, but I have heard that Edinburgh is riddled with 'posh/v.rich students', which is fine, but I prefer a mixture of all backgrounds etc. Is this true?
More nightclubs per head than any other city in the UK apparently.

Though I believe they're including Espionage in that.....

Perfect - is there any bar-side philosophy to go with that ?
My friend took me to Brass Monkey when i was up there, i swear its the coolest pub in the world

:suith: Brass Monkey... randomers, film and mattresses. What more does anyone need... :p:
Brass Monkey's ok, I've only been there a few times but it's been jam-packed and the cinema room was booked privately...

In the same sort of area, The Auld Hoose has a cracking jukebox, I like it in there... and The Maltings has 50p vodka or gin all night Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Blind Poet is a favourite of ours.

Usually only go to a club after pub closing time so anything with free entry and cheesy tunes is good enough!
when i visited we didn't find any of the pubs or studenty areas in particular though it was a saturday night. We went to lulus, shanghai club- the bar above was really nice, and Why Not-which was pretty scummy but fun. are there any MASSIVE clubs i.e more dance music though becasue these seemed kind of cheesy/fun clubs?

Espionage
where is that?
Victoria Street, just off George IV Bridge (near Grassmarket).
Is this a uni not to go to if you dislike clubbing quite majorly ?
Not at all- there's a lot of things to do in Edinburgh even if you are not a clubber. I only really go clubbing once in a blue moon, but have a very active social life. There's comedy clubs, jazz bars and the like all over the city and dozens of university societies and sports clubs. For a full list, visit the EUSA and EUSU webpages (Google).

Opium on the Cowgate. Studio 24 on Calton Road near Waverly train station.

Club nights at the Citrus Club (Lothian Road), and The Hive as well are pretty popular.

The Uni has a rock society - EDGAR: http://www.edgarsoc.com

What if you DO like clubbing though?
Are the clubs good like?
