What is freshers week?

Hi,

I’ll be attending uni this September but what’s freshers week?
Is it just a week of introduction and getting to know your tutors and course as well as meeting students you’ll be working with?

Is freshers week only useful for those who’ll be leaving home-for them to look at accommodation and meet new inmates?
(I’m planning to stay at home though so won’t this week be beneficial for me?)

What do you take with you?
Do you get a chance to learn more about societies? Do you have to pay for the societies? If you do, do you have attend those societies?
When do the societies take place at the end of the day?

Sorry I have so much questions but obviously I’ve never been to uni so I’m abit anxious.

Any help would be great.
Thank you.
To my knowledge Freshers week is the week before the term actually starts where people can socialise and join societies. There should be plenty of YouTube videos that can help you on this topic.

It’s basically an introduction week to allow you to settle in.
A week you wont feel very fresh after.

Likely you'll be hungover, broke, and sick.
Hi Alisha999,

Freshers Week will be packed with course introductions, enrollment and many activities! A schedule will be released nearer the time. Freshers Week here at Aston will take part 17th-23rd September. There are plenty of things for students to do so don't feel left out because you're living at home.

As for societies, check out the Students' Union website (https://www.astonsu.com/activities/search/) to find our full list of clubs and societies you can join in September at the Freshers Fair (date tbc). Each society will have a membership fee for joining for the year which can range from £2 to £10+ but you don't have to go to every meet up! You'll be able to pay on the day of Freshers Fair or online once you've got your official Aston email and account all set up.

Each society has different days/times when they meet up. On the website, there is a mini profile on each club and society which should detail the days/times they meet up.

And if you have an idea for a new society, you can visit our Students' Union in September and speak to the Student Activities team to set one up!

Hope this helps

Sadie
