What are the benefits of vitamin D ?

Vitamin D is part of how our bodies function so if you are deficient in it the benefit of taking it is giving what your body needs to function fully.
As long as you aren't deficient in it though there is no real benefit of taking it since you get it from diet and the sun anyway. It's main purpose is to help the body absorb calcium, but it does serve some other roles too.

Actually, many people in the UK are deficient because it is very hard to get enough from food, and you can only get it from sunlight if you are not wearing sun cream. The NHS recommends that everyone should consider taking vitamin D supplements, especially in the autumn and winter.
