iPhone leaking black goo

Last night I noticed my iPhone 7 plus was leaking black goo from the side so I rang Apple to try to get an in-store appointment as soon as possible, the had me speak to a tech supervisor who had me send her a picture of the issue so she could send to the engineers, she told me to turn my phone off and not use it again and that I would get a phone call the next day saying what's going to happen.

I bought the phone in Feb 2017 from Argos, the warranty was only for a year but this is a manufacturer fault.

I just want to know if anyone else has had the same issue, if so how was it resolved? Did you send the phone away and have to wait until it was fixed? Did Apple replace your Phone? Did you have to buy a new one?
Often you'll get an appointment, they'll take the iPhone for a few days and then fix or replace it.

If for whatever reason they don't replace it ALWAYS shop around before buying a new one. Check:

Not me, but a quick google search shows you're not the only one with this issue.

Thanks for the reply, I have googled the issue and found other people with the problem but haven't been to find anyone saying what happened.
It’s Venom
Thanks Acsel ! That's ok - it's me editing old threads to standardize the advice. We're getting LOTS of traffic to weird old tech threads like this one and some of them don't have proper answers/are too old to get any love.

So I'm going in and adding a quick summary of the answer/links to help and then leaving it alone.

Seems to be people googling an issue and then trying to get an answer. Only got a few left to do.

Edit - apologies for it bumping the thread, not wanting to do that just can't stop it happening!
