KCL, LSE or UCL?? LLM European law

Hi,

I'm a French student and I just got an offer from these three universities for an LLM EUropean law next year.

Which one should I choose? They all seem to have approximately the same academic level, though I am not sure which has the best reputation in this field of law.

I don't know either what are their assets or disadvantages about the student life, the facilities, reputation, teaching methods, campus life, accomodation...

That would be great if you had any information to help me making my choice...
thank you!

From a prestige point of view, LSE is the best as far as I'm aware

they have marginal differences. i guess UCL and LSE are considered to be somehow better.
KCL without question!

KCL: first of all its cheaper

KCL is definitely the better of the two programmes. Their LLM has a far more practical approach and has an excellent reputation with city law firms and barristers' chambers. The flexibility afforded to students when choosing their options is also another big plus - you can either do a specialist LLM or a tailored one to suit your career path.

The quality of the staff - both permanent and and visiting - is world class.

The academics are great and the reputation amongst leading international firms in the city (legal, banking, accounting etc) for legal students is second to none!

The choice is simple… If you want to study economics, as the name would suggest, go to LSE, otherwise KCL is the place for you. KCL is acknowledged internationally as a leading law school, making it an ideal choice for any prospective law student. Merely to consider studying law at LSE over KCL would be a big mistake.

Good location (next to the LSE) & not in the out-of-the-way Gower Street.
In mean, KCL is pretty much on Chancery Lane & Fleet Street.

S’il vous plaît, n'hésitez pas à me poser des questions car je sais beaucoup d'étudiants de LLM!
They only run one undergraduate course for law : M100 .....

Kings runs :

1.

LLB Law

2.

LLB Law with European Legal Studies

3.

English Law with Australian Law

4.

English Law & German Law LLB

5.

English and French Law < ---- c'est pour moi

6.

English Law & American Law

This gives a pretty good indication as to the focus and resources they have on offer.

i do not intend to argue that KCL isn't good or anything. but if u go have a look at the "Investment Banking" forum, u'll find that KCL is does not have as wonderful a reputation u think it has in the city in non-legal areas. with regard to international reputation, all the Americans, Asians professionals i know only know LSE, UCL and usually think KCL is pretty average when compared to those two institutions. I will not comment on the validity of this view, but this is my observation.

I have to say ,if I;m not mistaken, that King's has the best European Law Department in the world, so if you're gonna do a LLM in European Law, wouldn't you want to be with the best
I must say that internationally all the Americans etc I met had only heard of Oxford, Cambridge and LSE and very few had even heard of UCL let alone KCL. It depends really what you want to do, within Europe though I suspect they all have fairly equal reputations!
Hi everybody,

I ve got the same problem as my french friend, I received some offer to study
international financial law at LSE and king's and I don't know witch one to choose!
If one of you followed the same program in one of this universities, his advice will be helpful to me ( I want to work for a global law firm in NY or Tokyo, which university is more recognized in these countries? )

Thanks

(Sorry for my English.....)

You've only made 1 distinction between KCL and UCL; the location. And to be honest I prefer Bloomsbury to the Strand anyway. It's hardly out of the way! It's a 10-minute walk to Leicester Square, which is more or less the same as King's, to be honest. Everything else you've said can be applied to UCL as well as King's. If a better location (which is highly subjective) is the only difference you can identify then it'd be a big mistake to automatically choose KCL over UCL...

I gave advantages as to why the OP should study at KCL.

As you say, I gave one distinction between KCL and UCL - the location.
I simply can't on other grounds, as I haven't studied at UCL.

On a different note, I am going to join the Blackadder society. I love it.
Hmm ok. I just wanted to make sure that UCL wasn't being overlooked :p:

Welcome to the society. As a reward, take a short holiday.

Did you enjoy it? Good!

I would choose KCL because of its specialty in European law. Then comes UCl. Finally LSE. If you're talking about general reputation, however, this may not be the case.

The only reason why LSE is more heard of internationally is because they portray themselves to be international, as the intake for international student is much greater than domestic students.
