Missing entry requirements for Course

I am currently in year 12 and I would love to apply to LSE and UCL for Economics as they both are prestigious unis and they are only a short commute away from where I live but I understand how competitive it is to get a place there.

Both unis ask for A*AA which from talking to my teachers is likely to be the target I get for Economics, History and Maths however they specify that they would want the A* in Maths which is a problem as my likely predicted A* target is in Economics and My Maths teacher will give me no more than an A. Even if I had a strong Personal Statement, would I stand no chance in getting into these unis?

From what I heard, the A* requirement for maths is there because of the difficulty of econometrics so if I tried to learn some econometrics or tried to demonstrate good mathematical ability in the summer and put it in my PS, would it be worth it?
