Favourite things to start talking about

Science is pretty much my de-facto icebreaker. Generally, I can basically tell you who my friends are by how little science I talk to them about.

What do you guys have as a preferred way to get started talking to new people in order to befriend them (or more!!)?
What porn they like.

As a rule of thumb for first dates... I mean, it sort of is applicable to making new friends too.

Talk about FORD

Family
Occupation
Recreation
Dreams

Don't talk about RAPE

Religion
Abortion
Politics
Exes

Our N is wrong in th'ed.
Well, I was joking but at the same time it is a great topic. It is something which is interesting but also I detest small talk, guarded spiel about the weather the person gives to everyone. I want something real.

I mean in a sense you're totally right.

What if they're a girl and their response was "Oh really attractive men. Kinda like you, but better jawline and a 6 pack"

Maybe it'd backfire! :P

Go one further and remind her!
The faulty premise is thinking I watch the mainstream stuff you enjoy, which has a tendency to scripted. No, my taste is far more sophisticated.

The other faulty premise is thinking "real" pertains to the subject matter strictly, as in to talk in-depth about fantasy literature is not "real" talk. It is not the subject matter but how you speak about it that makes it real, my impoverished friend.

Gives her the attention that she wants. The most satisfying response to such behaviour is to treat it as utterly beneath you; they will be wounded. And consequently want your approval any way.
