Kids binge drink below 18 anyways. How is raising the age going to help?

It would just make it look as though the legal limit is even further away, so why bother waiting when it's so easy to get alcohol.

If they really want to stop binge drinking, that's not the way to do it imo.

yeh i think that people will always find a way against drinking laws.
i mean, they did it in the 20s when the americans made moonshine n bootleg booze etc.
and in italy there is no age restriction on drinking, and there are no problems with binge drinking, alcohol abuse etc.
so yeh, i dnt think it shud b raised. wont make a blind bit of difference.
also, i jus turned 18, and that would seriously annoy me (and all other uni students!).
unis would have to do what america does and creat frat houses! haha. coool.

Should be 16 or 14, not even higher!

Reply 4

no, plus it never work, and the usa have it up to 21 and they have a worst binge drinking then we have, so it won't work

Reply 5

No. Treating adults like children will not in anyway help the problem.

I've read that article before and I would like to point out the following:

A government spokesman said: "The majority of people drink sensibly and responsibly and the government has no plans to raise the minimum drinking age. "Instead, we are using a combination of effective education and tough enforcement to change the behaviour of the minority that don't."

In answer to your question, I do not think that the drinking age should be raised, that is not a solution to the problem.

^ Ah, I just watched the news which said they were planning to raise it.

I think it's half down to the fact that alcohol here is seen as such a bad thing, and we're constantly warned against it, etc. that makes people want to go and get bladdered. In places like France it's just part of their culture and instead of constantly feeling the need to get completely legless, they enjoy alcohol as part of their diet and have way less problems with binge drinking than over here.

No! They stopped me smoking, there's not chance they'll stop me drinking ):

I think th elaws in this country are already skewed enough. If thye raise the age to 21 then you can get married, have kids, have a mortgage, drive to work before you can have a pint with your mates. hmmm Not good

.... Which brings me to another point which proves how useless raising the age is.
They didn't stop me smoking. Just because they raised the age, I either hope I'll get served, or if not, get my 18 year old friends to buy cigarettes for me.

No. How many people currently drink under the age of 18?! Loads. Taking alcohol away from people who are already legal to drink isn't going to stop problems. It's ignoring the problem, not helping it.

Reply 14

No.
What about all us alcoholic 18(and below:ninja:)-20 year olds.

They'd have to set up recovery camps or something...think of the expense!

To be honest i think university applications would go down. I mean I actually know some poeple who are only going for the party

Raising the drinking age will decrease college bars (and bars elsewhere) revenue by ALOT!

Reply 17
