I don't know exactly how brainy ours is, but he is certainly getting enough column inches at the moment, the Ashfield MP, Secretary of State for Defense (though for how much longer in the cabinet is anyone's guess after the Hutton inquiry finishes), Geoff Hoon.

What an honour :rolleyes: :cool: :tongue: :wink:

He isn't an Ashfield local, however, Ashfield WAS a safe seat - it's been under Labour control for as long as I remember, but is now under N.O.C since May after local elections, so the tides may be changing.

As for Geoff Hoon, he came round our school to open a couple of new science block rooms - and in so doing went round and visited our Maths department, one of the rooms in which was the yearbase for my year (at the time). On one of the display walls was a photo set of our year at an RAF Open Day at a RAF base in Cambridgeshire somewhere.

So the conversation went like this:

Teacher touring GH round: "This is pictures of our year 10 groups trip to RAF (name here, I don't remember) on an Open Day this February".

GH: "And where would that be?"

Now excuse me, but I'm a little concerned if our Defense Secretary doesn't know where his RAF bases are.

And by the way, Sutton in Ashfield has it's claim to fame without Geoff Hoon - we have the biggest sundial in Europe I'll have you know! :wink: :tongue:

I just don't care for the guy much. He always seems out of touch with the people. (Or at least, my view of the people of Britain)

To be quite honest I only like a handful of politicians. The one for my area is a 'Champagne Socialist' if there ever was one.

Does it as heck as like !

It should work exactly at only two points in the year, other than that it can be anything up to 5 or 6 hours out and thats when we have some sun, which lets face it, in Britain is (or should be, especially this time of the year), limited.

Bit of a monstrocity to the locals, but for people who come from near and ... nearer still for their shopping, they still have a photo in front of it.

having a hero aint really the same as having an idol if you ask me. a hero you might try to emulate, an idol you just worship.

I guess it's down to personal opinion;

Idol = Some you greatly admire = hero

Regardless, I think your attitude towards your local MP can only be bad for your area. Your attitude leads to complacency that whatever he proposes is good, which leads to a lack of objectivity when it comes to elections.
