P45

I got a new job and employer asked me to bring some documents in tomorrow. They didn't ask me for the P45 from my old job and I was wondering if I should ask, but someone told me that I don't need to give them a P45 if I haven't worked this financial year. My last job was in December 2017 (and ended in the same month). Should I ask the employer if they want it anyway or is that unnecessary?

Also is it just me or is TSR really slow?
