My Masters finishes in October and my PGCE stars in September will this be allowed?!

So I’m currently on a masters course- it’s no longer taught and I’ve got my final dissertation deadline the first week of October. I’m due to start a PGCE in September- will I still be allowed to enrol on the PGCE even though I’m still doing my masters?
Thanks in advance

Yes that's fine. Does your PGCE uni know? They will want your transcript as soon as you have it.

Yes they know and they are now saying I might not be able to go on the PGCE because I’m finishing my masters- even though it’s oretty much finished!! (And it’s not a course requirement, I’ve done all the compulsory elements to get on the course). I don’t understand why I wasn’t told this earlier- I’ve given up a full time job and didn’t accept another opportunity to do the PGCE!! So I’m wondering if I can contest this descison? Especially as they’ve left it so late and they still aren’t sure!!

Who have you spoken to and why aren’t they sure? I’d ring admissions and if needed the course director. Explain about your having finished the required modules and got your grades for them. Typically they’ll let you start and you can give them your transcript when you have it.

It’s the admissions officer who contacted me about this, questioning if I’d be ‘undertaking this qualification at the same time as the PGCE’ and said I might not be able to enrol but he’s not sure and couldn’t give me a answer. I’m still waiting. It’s very frustrating that it’s only been mentioned now, so I’m not sure what to do if it is the case that I can’t go on the September intake as planned. Surely I can contest this!?

I’ve already told you what to do. Asking if you can contest this again and again isn’t going to help. You need to talk to a named person in admissions and the course director and keep at it. Only they can tell you.

Personally I think it quite reasonable for the PGCE uni to be questioning whether you can start your PGCE in September whilst still enrolled on a Masters. A PGCE requires 100% commitment and a masters dissertation, whilst not as strenuous as a PGCE, is no light work either- you aren't almost finished when you still have potentially a third of your credits left to go. It is bad though that they didn't notify you of their concerns before.

I would guess it's because you can't be registered on two different courses simultaneously.

Hello, I was able to do the PGCE in the end 🙂 Would definitely recommend to get your dissertation finished before September but I’m sure you’ll be grand either way! Good luck with everything

Hey that's brilliant thank you! Did you have any problem with SFE? I've applied for my funding but no outcome yet. My diss is due Sept 10th anyway so planning to be done in August 🤞
