Can’t recommend books, but I can say that you should try to avoid the really popular ones like Freakonomics as they’re a bit of an application cliche

Read something that genuinely interests you. If you want to learn about the causes of the financial crisis for example, read up on that. The point of mentioning a book in your UCAS statement isn't to tick off a 'I've read a book' tick-mark, but to give you an avenue to show your passion for something in the field. You'll only make it seem truthful if you actually find what you're reading interesting.

Forgot to mention this earlier, but it's definitely more about personal interpretation than anything. Evaluating what you learned from one book is better than listing five.
