Hi I was just wondering what the likelihood is of a maintenance loan being introduced for distance learning (Open University) students in 2019/2020 who don't happen to have been diagnosed with a disability?

Yes I am interested in this too. The open university is an excellent institution and perfect for parents! So why doesn’t the government acknowledge this and give maintenance loans for the OU???

Hi vwigs,

we don't have any information for funding yet for 2019/20. Keep checking our website for updates here.
Thanks,

Thanks for the link Claire but that page (or set of pages) doesn't address distance learning at all and from my interaction with the employees at Student Loans they don't have a clue either!! Any update on where to look for info?

Hi there,

As it stands currently, we haven't received any guidance to inform us otherwise. The Part Time Maintenance Loan remains available to students physically attending a university or students with disability.

Nihad

This really isn't fair. I'm not allowed a maintenance loan because I don't have a disability but im also not allowed universal credit because I'm studying two courses which makes me full time. How am i suppose to live exactly?
