Hi

Has anyone studied a STEM subject and gotten a third class in second year and managed to graduate with a 2:1 overall? If so, could you share some tips of how you did it.

Thanks

My course was different as it was a foundation degree then a 1 year top up to Bachelors. The best people to ask are your tutors that marked your work over the course of the year. They can tell you what you need to work on. Have you been using Turnitin? If so, there will be feedback on that, that will tell you what was good and what needs work.

Also, will your final year include a dissertation? If so, this will be worth double marks essentially, so you need to do well in this as it can bump up your final mark. You will also need to do well in the other modules and score well in any exams you might have. It’s all about preparation, organisation and communication with your tutors...and hard work! Lol. If you do have a dissertation, I would advise researching and preparing for it over the summer so it’s easier when you start in September etc.

Mine was physics BSc hons. Failed first year averaged third for rpt and year 2. Got 2.2 overall. By knuckling down in 3rd year. The algorithms they use to calculate degree class can use only your third year if you average a higher degree from that.

I did. Went from 48% to 62%. Try new learning techniques and don't be afraid to ask questions. Work harder than previous years. If you live close to uni then use library facility as much as possible as it has tonnes of books and journals.
