lump in throat after drinking

So this is an odd one, but it’s got me quite perturbed!

Basically last night I drank wayyyyy too much too quickly and after sitting very still feeling very horrible for a while i went to the loo thinking I was going to throw up. When I got there this was not happening so i made myself sick- stupid yes and incidentally something I've never done before.

After I felt much better however upon waking up this morning I had this lump in the back of my throat I couldn't swallow right at the back. My first thought, yuckily enough is that it was a bit of left over sick or something. However upon examining and trying to get it out I think it’s attached to my throat just sitting on my tongue. If I lean right forward it sits on the back of my tongue and feels sort of jelly like but can't get hold of it because obviously I start to gap uncontrollably!

This is very long but basically, anyone ever had this? Any ideas about what to do? I don't particularly want to see a doctor or get my parents to look at it but I will if it stays.

Maybe you've got an infection from putting your grubby mits in your mouth? :s-smilie:

If it's still there after some time, then you should definitely go and see a doctor - sounds very strange to me. And stop drinking! (at least, so excessively).

What were you drinking? alcopops give me the same thing, because of the acidity of them. Also, alcohol can give you acid reflux which could also inflame the throat, cause lumps etc. Although, yeah, get it checked out if it doesn't go away in a couple of days.

Using your hands to help you throw up often causes you to scratch the back of your throat with your fingers, even if it doesn't feel like it. This can often cause an infection. Gargle with saline solution (1 mug water - 1/4 teaspoon salt) - should clear it up pretty quickly.

Do you know what colour it is or how big?

Cheers for the replies, I tried the saline solution thing on the advice of a friend and its cleared up fine in a couple of days. I think maybe i did just scratch of bruise the back of my throat.

Lesson very well learnt, I won't be doing that again any time soon!
