Eat something substantial with iron in it, drink a pint or so of water, and go and have fun!

I went to a massive party and didn't have a meal after giving blood, and it was my first time. Thankfully I only felt a little dizzier/drunker than usual, nothing too bad - but I wouldn't risk it. Have a big meal with plenty of iron and protein, drink a lot of water and you'll be fine

Careful...One of my friends passed out after having a drink (beer) and a fag after giving blood.

Reply 4

i advise strongly against it.
i was very ill after doing just that.

It says on the little card they give you after donating that you shouldn't drink alcohol until at least eight hours after donating (if i remember rightly). But I think, as you say, you'll probably be fine if you don't go mad and drink a lot. Just make sure you really don't go mad and drink a lot.

Would drinking Guinness work with this?
Basically it's like eating a meal, really fills me up that black stuff does, and it's got loads of iron in it. Would that work.

Sounds like it could be a recipe for a good night out tbf.

You need to drink non-alcoholic fluids after you donate to replace the fluids you've lost. Drinking guiness would not be ideal. Yeah, it's got iron in it, but iron isn't going to rehydrate you, which is the most important thing you need after donating.

Nah, the stupid NHS keep the blood. If you want to drink it after giving it, you should probably try to do it at home.

Cheap night

Well, she could drink loads of water beforehand. But when I had a blood test for anemia (sp?) I gave three damn syringes worth. I felt right tired out, and that night my mum said right we're going to the pub tonight. She cooked a big meal before we went out, and insisted I drink only cold drink. Not tea, it absorbs nutrients or something and I used to drink pints of the stuff. Went to pub and she gave me Guinness and crisps. Felt fine after that.

To be honest, I'd be more worried about the going clubbing in itself part. I mean, drinking dehydrates you as it is, add to that you'll be down some blood, you could end up feeling faint very easily in a club atmosphere (assuming it'll be on the warm side with dancing too )

Take it easy.

Sitting in a pub for a drink is very different to clubbing the night away though!

Yeah tbh I was drinking guinness in a pub after blood was taken out my body, and wasn't up dancing. Tbh I was a naughty bugger my mum being dear friends with the landlord of the pub we go to he was inclined to serve me, bless him.
but true if you're in a club environment where the music will uop the toxicity, I'd take it easy. You don't wanna pass out and receive the humiliation of your friends having to drag you home lol.

Yeah I posted that reply, before that edit :p:

Oops  Heh, sorry

I'm just conscious I guess because I had a fainting episode recently, which was very weird considering if anything I've tended toward high blood pressure. A combination of dehydration and a warm room was quite enough, and I've only ever fainted twice in my entire life before!

So, just gotta be careful of it I guess. Not that fainting is the worst thing in the world ever, but it can be just one part

You should be fine, they would have warned you if there was a risk

Hmm, yeah my sister gave up drinking she kept getting fainting fits. It's weird though, she never drank anyway. But she didn't eat much, so we put it down to that. She was stood at a bus stop once and just collapsed. Was horrible, she hit her chin on the pavement. Right mess. She's alright now though, but she's always carful since that. She was soooo embarrassed the whole bus queue saw her go down.
And since then she's had two nicknames from me.
Smayley (Her name is hayley)
and
Timber... She takes them on the chin - no pun.

I did that the last time I gave blood (it was my birthday after all) and I got very drunk after only a few VK's.

Just be careful
