Harrods Interview...PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi guys...I have a Harrods Interview for a weekend sales associate for Harrods Signature Brand coming up and have heard they are really intense. Like, group presentations, selling products in front of others, standing up in a group of 20 talking about yourself etc etc. And I'm not all that confident and really scared. I'm not sure what to wear, because I don't really have smart clothes or suits and they said...

You will therefore be advised to attend wearing the following:
* Black/dark grey/navy matching suit with black shoes.
* White or pastel-coloured plain shirts with understated ties for men.
* Jewellery must be kept to an understated minimum.
* Any tattoos must not be visible

I really need the job, but don't know what to wear or what to say!! Any advice.

your a girl! looking smart is cheap, go to matalan and get yourself a dirt cheap suit, or alternatively primark, you shoudl be able to get the whole lot in for under 20 quid and the clothes will come in handy for other interviews / suit wearing ventures you need. THere is no point losing the job on unecessary things like having big hoop earings, but likewise there is no point trying to conform to their demands so much you feel uncomfortable in your appearence, lose confidence and underperform. If you've never worn a suit etc before, which i'm guessng you haven't, you should probs get one and try it out to break into it. Living in london you could try grabbing a tube and just going around in a suit, i'm probs just weird but wearing a suit makes me feel kindof powerful. When i did my work experience in london it felt great to be going around with a suit on. SO yeh try and prepare so you feel as comfortable as possible but look as they expect.

In terms of the interview the most important thing is to try and stay calm, don't make it out to be a big deal: you don't really need this job, there are plenty of jobs available in and around london, try not to make it in your head as the be all and end all.

From my own experience in these interview situations there will almost definitly, in a group that large, some people that stand up and giggle because they feel uncomfortable, make sure, espeically when your selling, you don't giggle because its really annoying. Harrods staff are generally quite serious, efficient and very professional, be yourself, but try to be the side of yourself that is somewhat like that :p:

in terms of selling just enjoy it practive at home "sell me this stapler" or "sell me this wrist watch" is typical of a salesman job. Just remember to smile and it will go fine. good luck!

Harrods interviews are supposedly quite hard. One of my friends has worked there and several have had interviews. They're usually quite large groups and one of my friends had to pitch fish food to the rest of the group... My friend was like huh? What???

My advice would be to make a real effort with your presentation, stay calm, be professional and don't let what other people are doing affect you.

Good luck!

Thanks, for you're advice. I went today, I wore high waisted black wide leg trousers, a white shirt and a suit jacket to go with the trousers. I did feel quite powerful aswell...lol. Loads of people were there and it was more relaxed than I expected. Their going to get back to me within the week to see if i get a callback to the 2nd assesment so if I do I reckon that's going to be the hard part. Hopefully all goes well though!!!

if you have hotmail there's a box at the top of your hotmail looks like a serach function search for a word or letter found in the email address and click the button that says 'mail' thus searching your mail. altneratively search it by date

wow i am jealous!! Just come across as confident, make sure you look pretty (sadly retail does often disciminate with looks, I'm sure Harrods will) but look smart too. Good luck:smile:

Hi there,

I applied to Harrods just yesterday.
I was just wondering how long they took to reply and also what jobs you previously had in order for them to accept you for an interview.

As far as I know Harrods are very meticulous about previous work experience.
