High Street Gambling establishments

William Hill say that reducing the max. bet from £100 to £2 on fixed odds betting terminals (FOBTs) will make 38% of it's shops unprofitable resulting in the loss of 4500 jobs. (source) Presumably other gambling companies will be affected similarly.

This shows that these skill-less highly addictive machines were what was actually funding these operations!

What is often missed by journalists is the fact that other local businesses have already lost jobs since these merchants of misery brought the terminals in (mainly to poorer neighbourhoods) following the 2005 gambling act. Money lost on these machines would formerly have been spend on what other businesses sell.

Gambling companies are now using fear/moral blackmail , like the National Rifle Association do in the USA.

or other forms of gambling.

It was obvious they were the chief source of profits and misery.

I am surprised they went for £2 as I thought £5 or £10 would have been more reasonable, but surprisingly the government listened. Still plenty being lost online.
