Update 10/11/2018

Hello TSRians! Your favourite no-life guy is back! As promised, I'm here once again to update my post and tell you what I've been doing with my (un)interesting life  .

I've been doing quite well recently and I'm doing some progress :tsr:

So, without more waffling, here it is:

Maths:
After being quite unhappy about not doing Further Maths and finding maths AS too easy, I've agreed with my school that I'll sit the A2 privately, after doing that I'll be eligible to do Further Maths in Year 13. I told my teacher that I found lessons too easy so he gives AS exercises, at the end he gives me A2 and further Maths AS work in a topic to practise (quite happy with this). I've achieved 96% (48/50) in my last mock, I did it in 1/2 of the time as well so I'm quite confident with Maths AS. I've been looking at statistics again but I'm still finding it quite annoying, however there's plenty of time to practise it. I've been doing extremely well in mechanics as well so I'm not too worried about this subject at the moment.

Chemistry:
I've been getting As in my mocks so I'm quite happy, my percentage is ranging from 70 to 90% so I'm certainly quite happy with it.

Physics:
I've scored really highly on physics however I have a little problem with a topic: Equilibrium. I've had 80 % in all of my tests however I got a U in the Equilibrium test ;-;, I'm practising it quite a bit.

Biology: After my horrible grade in Biology I've improved to a D, I'm working to get 80 % on the tests however it's a bit hard as there's many words that I don't understand (freshy problems  )

Outside of A Levels:
- Gym (7-14 hours per week as I'm prioritising my A Levels)
- UKMT Senior Maths Challenge, I found it quite hard, I think that I've got a bronze if boundaries are low 😅 (Is it just me that found the questions way harder than previous years?)

I'm sitting the Physics and Biology challenges and I'm quite hyped and uncertain as I'm the first from my college that's doing them

I'm going to start looking at Unit 2 of Triple Science and Maths. I'm quite confident with them and I'm getting high scores, however I'll work to get these higher in the future :P. By January I'm hoping to be 100% confident with these 4 subjects, then I'll be practising everything until I'm sure that I get constant 90 % in all questions. After January I'm planning to start to take a look at A2 maths and improve my Spanish AS (B to an A at AS shouldn't be that hard, right? :v)

I'm going to try to join my school's badminton team, I'd love to be in a badminton tournament once again :P

I'll attend the Seren Network event and I'll be doing the following sessions: "Medical Science", "Standing out from the crowd", "Applying to Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science" and "Applying to universities in the USA".

I'm already starting my YYGS (Yale Young Global Scholars) application and I'm going to apply to the US summer schools by the Sutton Trust.

Oh talking about the US, I've called the universities that I'm applying to and I've got some helpful feedback.

I've attended the Cardiff University open day and it was quite nice to talk with some medicine students ^^

To sum that up, I'm on track to do everything in my list, the only regret that I have is not socialising much, however I'll try to use my time more efficiently.

That's it for now, I'll see you soon guys!

I've missed you. :hugs: Wow, you seem to be doing great! Well, we all have topics we are struggling with, you'll get there in the end. Urgh, I wish I could even near that well in maths. Any advise on how I can improve my maths? Acc, I may pm you about it if that's ok?

I've missed you too :hugs:

I'm hoping to keep this consistent.

The advise that I give is keep practising questions until you know the methods inside out (learn it not memorise it!), feel free to PM me, I may take some time to answer as I'm not active on tsr (I'll be online everyday in the results day season like always 👀)

Update 25/11/2018

Hello everyone <3, I've missed you all hehe, how have you all been doing? How are you finding A Levels? I'd like to hear about how you've been finding sixth form, I haven't talked with many of you for quite some time

A little update on what I'm doing...

Maths:
I'm just practising Unit 1-2 of AS as it's all done, I'm just practising on my speed and making sure that I get all right really, not much change. I may get the A2 textbooks AND the UKMT SMT textbook so that I can practise it and stretch myself. That's it for Maths I guess, AS Maths is quite relaxed. By any means, I'm not a Maths genius, I missed my UKMT Senior by 2 marks  , my Maths teacher was so disappointed ;-;. I think that getting used to those questions and practising then will give me a better grasp of the UKMT content, Your Local Cat, any advise would be helpful :P

Chemistry:
So I've been practising unit 1 as I'm still trying to memorise even the tiniest details, I've been making flashcards, I've been making AO1 exam styled questions so that I make sure that I understand (not memorise, actually learn and understand it!), I know that I'm delaying my Unit 2 with this, but I guess that it works for me 🤷*♂️.

Biology:
So this subject has been the one that's stretching me the most, and on top of that I have a crap teacher which goes too fast and doesn't explain things fast, fortunately, independent work is a thing... right?
So I've actually made a 180mark paper just on topic 1 which asks for even the smallest details such as to know the acetylamine group structure found in chitin (it's sad I know  ), I'm planning to do this for all topics so that I know them inside out, I think that memorising isn't a good idea so I changed my revision method, I'll try to learn it so that I can handle any question that's thrown at me 😁.

Physics:
It's basically Maths, I find it quite challenging (in a good way) as it makes me think more throughly, I'm also practicing the whole unit 1.

Conclusion:
I'm basically making sure that I know the Unit 1 content of all of my subjects inside out, it is delaying my plan for finish AS in January, however this isn't a race and it's better if I actually learn the smallest details, it's the best solution if I want a high percentage 😁. If I continue with my pace, I'll end AS by the end of January or the first week of February, which wasn't quite what I planned, however I'm basically working on my weaknesses earlier so that when I work on the harder questions, I have all (I mean it, all  ) of the content.

A bit outside of academics... I have been playing some badminton and I'm hoping to join my college's team. I'm still getting ready my Yale and Sutton Trust US Programme applications, I want to write my essays however I'm a bit too focused with AS :P

I guess that it may be good if I start to do volunteering and try to get placements at hospitals, however covering the content at this speed and depth is sucking my time, why can't a day be 36h long

Got a lot of things to do, however I'll get it all done, one by one...

Wow, just stumbled across this GYG by accident, congrats on the amazing results so far, I’m doing virtually the same options as you (doing further maths instead of physics) and doing the advanced welsh Bacc too, definitely going to follow this thread. Good luck with the Sutton Trust application, and (sorry I haven’t seen all the updates yet) but are you doing all the competitions this year?

Oh hey, welcome to my GYG , I'm doing Further Maths next year as I'm planning to sit A2 maths privately. Are you also doing Portuguese and Spanish? If so, that's quite cool as I haven't seen many people sitting these A Levels

I will be doing the competitions this year and next year. Are you doing any?

Is your school in Cardiff? (Just wondering 🤷*♂️).

Thanks, I hope that I get a place, let's see how it goes I guess? 🤷*♂️

Unfortunately not, my college only offers French and Welsh, and I had a slight panic about taking on more than 5 :/ How are they going though? I’m learning languages in my own time, do you reckon it’s worth trying to pick up Portuguese and Spanish? How do you find it? Honestly until I saw this thread, I’d barely thought about doing any competitions, but I’m really considering entering some now! I do Maths in one year and FM in the other, but I think I’m going to start familiarising myself with it now. Seems like a lot with 6 A-Levels though, let alone with all the extra/ super curriculars, great to see someone so motivated

I'm not the best person for advice on that stuff. However unlike GCSE/A-level, you're probably not going to instantly do well with these maths challenges/olympiads with a lot of practice in a short amount of time. If you spend the next year doing a little bit of maths (not A-level) a day/week, it should be more effective.
