HELP- Cancelling insurance choice results day

I’ve applied for chemistry at Durham and Warwick with Durham being my firm at A*AA and Warwick being my insurance at ABB. I’m predicting my results to be somewhere in between these, and therefore will meet the conditions of my insurance choice of Warwick . I however am not too keen on going to Warwick anymore and would prefer to go to York /Newcastle.This would be possible through clearing but to be able to go through clearing, I know that I would have to cancel my ‘contract’ with Warwick ( which apparently they will be willing to do anyway as they don’t want unhappy students), but my major concern would be that if I got released into clearing by Warwick and then was not able to get a place at York or Newcastle, I would not go to university this year which would not be preferable as I would rather go Warwick than no university. I was wondering if there was anyway to secure a place at another university before I went into clearing?
There isn’t, no. If you want to be released into clearing, you first have to turn down your place at Warwick.

So, firstly - See how your results go! You might meet your firm. If you don’t, and if York/Newcastle are in clearing for you, weigh up whether it’s worth it turning down your place at Warwick. You’ll likely get a place at either one if you meet the entry requirements, but you can’t be 100% sure.
This is exactly what I've been wondering, really stressed. I dont really want to go to my insurance university and would rather go to another uni. However I would still go to my insurance than not go to university at all. From what people have told me, you can't go into clearing at all if you already have AN offer (any offer). So that means you cant call other universities.

I’ve read somewhere however that you can call a university that has places available without going into clearing and have a verbal contract with them that they would accept you . Not sure if this is true though .

Do you mind telling me where you read that you could have a verbal contract? Was it on TSR?

I think it depends on the university. If you get the grades or above for it I'm sure they would be happy to do this if they have enough places so it's worth a shot. Just bare in mind not every university will though. Some universities that offer these verbal contracts put a time limit on it though so you'll have to persuade your placement university to release you quickly
https://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/clearing/clearing-faqs/

“We advise that students identify available places in Clearing, talk to the universities that offer them and secure a verbal offer before requesting they are released by their insurance choice. The last thing you want to do is be left without any university offers at all, unless you’re happy to take a year out and reapply in next year’s cycle.”

I saw that also - But I don’t think a university can guarantee you a place unless it’s confirmed, not just verbal “yes we have a place for you”

Hopefully someone who’s been through it / a clearings advisor can let you know.

Perhaps it's too late.

But I did so yesterda. I exceeded my insurance offer. I immediatly phoned Warwick, lancaster, exeter and kings and we reached a verbal agreement. Some of them sent me an email and some of them didn't officialising the verbal offer. After reaching to verbal agreements and I got the emails I phoned my insurance and kindly asked them to drop me into clearing. And then I immediatly accepted my offer in Warwick!

hope it helped!
