I have lived both on and off campus during my time at Strathclyde. I think it depends on what you're looking for; if you wish to meet and socialise with students, on-campus accommodation is perfect for you. You'll have plenty of opportunities to meet and hang out with other people in a similar situation to you (being newly moved out).
Alternatively, some off-campus accommodation is useful as you can find yourself with more space, and potentially fewer distractions.
There are pros and cons to both, so I would recommend having a look at specific accommodation (there are a large number of private accommodation options close to campus, while more information on strath accommodation can be found here here (https://www.strath.ac.uk/studywithus/accommodation/).
